With over a year of owning a business under her belt, Chelsia Berry is excited to be a new entrepreneur in Tacoma. “I’ve always loved Tacoma; it’s my home.” As a talented clothing designer, she’s on a mission to help create world peace through fashion design. Her tagline says it all: When a woman feels beautiful and confident, her presence cannot be ignored.

This up-and-coming designer knows the power of networking and is actively connected to the cultural circles of the city. “The arts scene in Tacoma is amazing—it’s an opportunity to meet like-minded people who want to offer something different from a big box store,” says Chelsia.

She’s also not afraid to ask for help when she needs it. A few months ago, Chelsia decided to move her original alterations business into a new storefront in downtown Tacoma. She heard about the City’s free assistance programs and sought out advice on how best to display her merchandise. City staffers met with her onsite and provided tips for displaying her clothing line and decorating the window displays. The result? “Now my windows glow at night!”

Chelsia attributes much of her growing success to her choice to locate in Tacoma. “I can be a big fish in a little pond. Everyone you need to know in Tacoma, you will meet.”
