Quality of Life
There’s no doubt about it, people come to the Pacific Northwest for its beautiful scenery, outdoor adventures and laid-back atmosphere. Everywhere you go, you’re surrounded by spectacular views of Commencement Bay, the Olympic Mountains and Mount Rainier. Whether you want to bike along the downtown Esplanade or unwind with a jog on the Ruston Way waterfront in Old Town, there’s something fun to do for everyone in Tacoma. Further afield, there are three ski resorts within a two-hour drive of Tacoma. Or experience the majestic coastline and saltwater beaches on the Olympic Peninsula. Of course you’re also welcome to just sit still and enjoy a double tall vanilla latte in one of our local cafés.
Tacoma is a city known for its beautiful parks and outdoor spaces. One of the city’s gems is Point Defiance Park with its 700 acres of nature trails, beaches and popular Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium. In 2011, the park was recognized as one of the top ten great public spaces in the United States by the American Planning Association. Life is easy-going in Tacoma. And we aren’t the only people who think so. In 2008 Prevention magazine rated Tacoma as one of the leading cities for walkability in the United States. On top of that, the City was recently named one of the most livable places in the country in USA Today.
