Cheney Stadium Renovation wins Award
Cheney Stadium, the home of the Tacoma Rainiers, a Triple-A baseball affiliate of the Seattle Mariners, was awarded “Ballpark Renovation of the Year” by Ballpark Digest thanks to its $30 million stadium makeover in 2011. The award was bestowed on Cheney Stadium for its attractive upgrades while still keeping the historic feel and ties to the original park built in 1960. The renovation included new luxury suites, a club/restaurant and a grass berm for baseball viewing along right field.
Award-Winning Environmental Research Facility in Tacoma
Completed in 2010, the Center for Urban Waters is a premier research center committed to developing solutions to the problems facing urban bay communities. Designed to LEED Platinum standards, the 51,000-square-foot office and laboratory facility houses the City of Tacoma’s Environmental Services, UW Tacoma research labs, and the Puget Sound Partnership. It was awarded “Public Project of the Year” in 2010 by NAIOP-Commercial Real Estate Development Association. The center is a showcase for the City of Tacoma’s commitment to sustainable building practices and energy conservation.
